Small Island Pinot Noir North 750ml
Too many “single vineyard” releases aren’t distinctive enough to really warrant the spotlight. That’s not the case here. The difference between this “North” bottling and its sibling “East” bottling is profound. They are a fantastic side-by-side duo. The most common ground they share is in their quality. The north vineyard is called Glen Garry and again, there’s only 80 dozen to go around. No new oak. Unfined and unfiltered etc. It was released from captivity on December 9.
This is surly in a good way. Broody. Plum, dark cherry, rounds of spice, gunsmoke. It swirls and shifts like a sleeping animal, stirred. Mint and cranberry notes make appearances too, and of course there is a wealth of dry, spicy tannin too. It’s quite a beast. In a good way.
